22,000 items always available: BYD Europe’s new logistics platform reaches new heights with AR Racking and Begra

14,000 m² of scalable capacity for immediate after-sales service

Installation completed in ten days with high-rise shelving and maximum flexibility

AR Racking, in collaboration with its official distributor, Begra, has completed the comprehensive transformation of BYD Europe’s logistics centre in Zevenbergen, the Netherlands. The project replaces a 3,000 m² warehouse with a 14,000 m² platform capable of storing 22,000 organised and ready-to-ship parts, reinforcing the operational continuity of the brand’s electric fleet across the continent.

The intervention began with a clear diagnosis of the initial situation. ‘When I arrived on my first day at work,’ says Ron Heijnen, BYD Europe’s warehouse manager, ‘I walked into a space so cluttered that it looked more like a garage than a professional warehouse; there were pallets everywhere and nothing made sense.’ BYD’s rapid expansion in Europe increased the logistical pressure: ‘We grew very quickly, which is positive because we want to contribute to a greener world, but that growth brought major challenges, especially in logistics,’ adds Heijnen.

To solve them, three requirements were defined: sufficient space for 22,000 components, a scalable system and maximum use of the building’s height. ‘In logistics, you pay per square metre, not per cubic metre, so we had to grow upwards,’ explains the manager. AR Racking’s design includes high-rise racking that multiplies the usable volume, adjustable picking levels that can be adapted to changes in demand in minutes, and cantilever lines for longer components. The assembly was completed in just ten days, without affecting daily shipments, thanks to the coordination between the technical teams at AR Racking and Begra.

The speed of execution was decisive. ‘The installation was supposed to take two weeks, but it was completed in a week and two days,’ says Robert Poh, warehouse team leader. He also highlights the ease of adjustment of the system: ‘What I like most about these racks is that they can be quickly reconfigured; they respond to changes and deliver what is needed when it is needed.’

With the new platform, parts can be located instantly and internal travel times have been significantly reduced, minimising vehicle downtime and associated costs. ‘The difference with the old warehouse is huge,’ says Heijnen. ‘Now every part is where it should be and leaves on time, so we can really look to the future.’

The installed solution allows for expansion without structural modifications, and all components comply with European safety and traceability standards, aligning with BYD Europe’s commitment to promoting emission-free transport. The project also confirms AR Racking’s ability to design tailor-made solutions that combine innovation, quality and speed of execution, backed by the operational proximity of its distributor network.
