AR Racking expands LUCUSLOG’s capacity to absorb growth in dairy demand
Installation of a new shuttle block and expansion of the existing one
2,000 new positions for dairy products, completed in just two weeks
AR Racking has completed a key project at the 10,600 m² logistics centre operated by LUCUSLOG S.L. in Begonte, Lugo. In just two weeks, the AR Racking team expanded an existing Shuttle block from 33 to 38 pallets deep and installed a new block with 12 lanes, 5 levels and 20 pallets deep. The result: 2,000 new storage positions for Euro pallets and American pallets of dairy products.
The intervention solves LUCUSLOG’s priority challenge: to absorb the growth in demand for dairy products without sacrificing agility or inventory control. ‘With this expansion, we gain the additional capacity we need to continue responding to the growth of the sector, while maintaining operational efficiency and product traceability,’ emphasises Pablo Bouvard, head of the Lugo-based company, who points out that daily operations did not stop at any time.
To achieve this, AR Racking’s engineering team designed a ‘surgical’ intervention within the existing facility. ‘We integrated the new Shuttle block without interfering with the current flows and taking advantage of every available cubic metre,’ explains Xose Anxo Pérez, project manager at AR Racking. The structure was raised to 10 metres and reinforced to support the new density, ensuring safety and durability.
AR Racking’s AR Shuttle system, operated by automatic trolleys that move the c load within each aisle, also provides speed in entries and exits, lower risk of damage and a reduction in operating costs compared to conventional solutions. ‘The automation of the Shuttle allows us to prepare orders with greater accuracy and less effort,’ adds Bouvard, convinced that the investment prepares the plant for upcoming seasonal peaks.
Pérez agrees on the long-term impact: ‘Not only have we increased capacity, we have established a scalable platform that can grow alongside LUCUSLOG’s business.’ The facility is ready for future expansion phases, in which new levels or depths can be added without interrupting operations.
