Ayesa Digital incorporates AI and quantum computing into the manufacture of zero-emission aircraft

Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, News

Through its Innovation Institute, it develops quantum algorithms to optimise processes, improve real-time anomaly detection and enhance the safety of new propulsion systems

Ayesa Digital, through its R&D unit, i3B, is participating in the “New-Hegaz” project, which aims to incorporate the most disruptive technologies into the zero-emission aircraft industry, for the definitive take-off of this sector.

Led by the CTA (Centre for Aeronautical Technologies), this project explores the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, classical computing technologies and the potential of quantum technologies (computing and sensors) to respond to the challenges of the zero-emission aircraft industry in terms of more efficient, zero-defect design and manufacturing, and strengthening the safety associated with new propulsion systems.

The role of i3B is to contribute its experience and knowledge in AI and quantum technology to bring these emerging technologies to a level applicable in the aerospace industry. It is therefore developing quantum algorithms to optimise manufacturing and assembly processes, generate new aerostructures for aircraft, improve real-time anomaly detection and reinforce the eco-sustainable safety of new propulsion systems based on hydrogen and hybrid batteries.

All in all, this will result in more efficient generative design and manufacturing processes for lighter and more complex aerostructures, the development of new sensors for monitoring and communications, enhanced safety for on-board hydrogen and hybrid systems used as energy sources, and the testing of new technologies such as quantum sensors, quantum machine learning and quantum optimisation.

This action is co-financed by the Basque Government’s Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability. With its contribution, i3B is promoting the maturity of disruptive technologies that will shape the future of zero-emission aviation and strengthening its position at the forefront of quantum computing in the Basque Country.
