The project, with an investment of 20 million euros, covers two sections totaling over 140 kilometers

The new national transport network will serve millions of people, promote sustainable mobility, and optimize intercity connectivity

Ayesa Ingeniería expands its track record in managing major railway infrastructures after being awarded two new contracts in Mexico. The Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) has assigned the supervision of two sections of the new national passenger railway network to Ayesa, for nearly 20 million euros—an infrastructure that is strategically important for the country socially and economically.

The Federal Government’s goal is to connect Mexico City with Nuevo Laredo, and in the first phase, four railway corridors are being developed: Mexico City–Pachuca, Mexico City–Querétaro, Querétaro–Irapuato, and Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo, with a total length of 787 kilometers.

Ayesa participates in two of these projects in a joint venture (UTE) with Cal y Mayor Asociados. The first involves a 30.3-kilometer section of the Querétaro–Irapuato train between Querétaro and Apaseo el Grande, valued at 8 million euros with a 27-month execution period. The second contract covers a 111-kilometer section of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo train between Saltillo and Santa Catarina, valued at 10.6 million euros with a 34-month execution period.

The works include the construction of viaducts, tunnels, vehicle crossings, and drainage systems.

In both contracts, the consortium will be responsible for supervising, controlling, and monitoring construction and design, ensuring compliance with the project’s technical, regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.

Strategic trains
The Querétaro–Irapuato and Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo trains will run on double passenger tracks over 108.2 and 395.7 kilometers, respectively, at a maximum speed of 200 km/h. They will be directly integrated into the passenger network connecting Mexico City with Nuevo Laredo from 2028.

This infrastructure will benefit millions of citizens, promote sustainable mobility, reduce travel times, and optimize intercity connectivity.

A second expansion phase is planned with an additional 2,600 kilometers of tracks, yet to be tendered, which will connect new routes such as Irapuato–Guadalajara, Querétaro–San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí–Saltillo, and Mazatlán–Los Mochis.

According to Manuel González Villalobos, Ayesa’s country manager in Mexico: “With these awards, Ayesa strengthens its experience in railway infrastructure projects in Latin America, consolidating its role as one of the leading players in the modernization of transport in Mexico.”
