The citizen will benefit from a more efficient management in the procedures and when reporting problems in the Chilean metro.

Ayesa, a global provider of technology and engineering services, has become the new technology partner of Metro de Santiago de Chile. The state-owned company has awarded it a support and infrastructure service contract for its SAP ERP system, with the aim of making the processes and procedures carried out by users more efficient.

Metro de Santiago is evolving its automation and innovation strategy as it understands that it must permeate its organisational model to increase the efficiency of its processes and save time and resources. At the same time, the use of technologies such as Big Data and Artificial Intelligence allow it to manage citizen information more efficiently and respecting their privacy, using it as input to optimise the quality and productivity of its services.

The choice of Ayesa as the technology consultant to manage its IT system is based on the multinational’s extensive experience in the implementation of solutions with the best market practices and its ability to offer a first class service. In this contract, valued at 2.8 million euros and with a term of 36 months, Ayesa will provide operational and functional continuity support for SAP systems and will be responsible for the hosting and administration service of the SAP Metro platform.

As Juan Ignacio Mena-Bernal, IT Chile director, explains, ‘the system managed by Ayesa is directly intertwined with the platforms that serve the customer’s last-mile providers. The citizen will benefit from a more efficient management of user card procedures and from the improvement in Metro de Santiago’s internal ticketing, which allows customers to report problems or request help. In this context, the SAP modules supported and developed by Ayesa will generate the necessary internal synergies for a more efficient process that benefits the end customer.

Ayesa was established in Chile eleven years ago, and this is the first contract it has been awarded based 100% on SAP technology in this country, although it is not its debut in the sector. Specifically, in 2010 it won a technology consultancy tender for Metro de Panamá and was responsible for the support, maintenance and implementation of improvements to the SAP ERP system.

The current project will increase Ayesa’s projection in the transport market, with expectations of emulating the leadership in large implementations that it already holds in critical sectors for economic development, such as energy and utilities. In addition, according to Ignacio Mena-Rosales, ‘this gives us the opportunity to enter SAP Partner Services and opens the doors to compete with the pool of SAP technology providers in Chile’.

Ayesa is a SAP Gold Partner with more than 25 years of experience. It is one of the main SAP Service Partners certified as an Outsourcing Partner in Operations (Hosting, Cloud & Infrastructure and SAP HANA) and Solution Operations (Business Suite and S/4HANA). We are also a Channel Partner (Qualified Partner Package Solution and Partner Center of Expertise) and Education Partner.

Engineering for the customer

The new technology contract strengthens the relationship that Ayesa has with Metro de Chile. In 2022, the engineering company was in charge of supervising the extension of line 3, carrying out works to overhaul the CBTC, electrical, communications, centralised command, platform doors, tolls and self-service machines, escalators, lifts, tracks, catenary and forced ventilation systems, among others. Subsequently, Metro de Santiago awarded it the supervision of sections 2, 3 and 4 of Line 7 for 11 million euros.

This metro system has been in operation since 1975, is one of the most modern systems in South America and the second longest network after Mexico’s metro. It currently has seven lines, 143 stations and a length of 149 km.
