Basquevolt reinforces its leadership strategy in solid-state battery electrolyte

The company prioritises its positioning as a benchmark electrolyte supplier in Europe, with strategic agreements with car and cell manufacturers.
Pablo Fernández Santos leads this strategy as General Manager, with a clear commitment to technology ‘Made in the Basque Country’, after securing an injection of 10.5 million euros with the backing of Ekarpen, Stellum and CDTI Innvierte.
Basquevolt reinforces its roadmap: focus on the electrolyte as the key to industry.
Basquevolt’s Board of Directors has approved to focus the company’s activity on the development and supply of electrolyte for solid state batteries, an essential component in the next generation of energy storage.
The company will work closely with automotive OEMs and cell producers to offer this technology to multiple sectors: automotive, stationary storage, light mobility and aerospace applications.
This strategy, which reinforces Basquevolt’s ambition to become a benchmark supplier in Europe, comes after having recently secured an injection of 10.5 million euros with the backing of Ekarpen, Stellum and CDTI Innvierte. This funding will accelerate the implementation of the industrial plan and consolidate the company’s position in a highly competitive market.
The company plans to start the process of industrialisation and sale of its electrolyte in 2027, relying on its own technology and its network of strategic alliances.

A disruptive, adaptable and safe electrolyte
The electrolyte developed by Basquevolt can exceed the energy density of current batteries by more than 50%. This translates into electric vehicles with more than 50% additional range, without the need to increase the size or weight of the battery. In addition, the technology solves critical safety issues, which would allow vehicles such as scooters to be reintroduced into public transport.
The electrolyte has been designed to be integrated into existing cell production lines in Europe, allowing industrial adoption without the need for major additional investment.
Pablo Fernández Santos leads the new phase
This strategy, focused on the development and supply of electrolyte, will be led by Pablo Fernández Santos, who took over as CEO of Basquevolt in March 2025. With a strong background in the automotive industry and a deep technological knowledge, Fernández Santos has played a key role in the founding of the company as Chief Technology Officer.
His leadership reinforces Basquevolt’s commitment to ‘Made in the Basque Country’ technology and its alignment with the technical and industrial challenges that will mark the next phase of growth.
Made in the Basque Country technology for the world
Basquevolt maintains its commitment to the development of proprietary technology conceived in the Basque Country, with global impact. Its approach combines scientific excellence, industrial scalability and public-private collaboration, positioning the company as a European benchmark in solid state batteries.
The company will continue to strengthen its network of industrial and technology partners, driving strategic agreements to take its disruptive electrolyte from the lab to production by 2027. Complementarily, cells using this electrolyte as a technology base will be developed as part of key projects to advance the integration and validation of this solution in real applications.
