Basquevolt, a leading company in state-of-the-art solid state batteries, has secured an injection of almost 10 million euros with the backing of Ekarpen, Stellum and CDTI Innvierte. This funding will enable the company to maintain its technology roadmap and accelerate its industrialisation during 2025.
In line with its alliance strategy, Basquevolt closes 2024 with agreements with two major automotive manufacturers (OEMs), consolidating its position in the battery industry. In addition, in 2025 it will promote an ambitious industrialisation plan in collaboration with Basque companies, with a focus on stationary storage and small mobility applications, thus strengthening its link with the local ecosystem and boosting industrial development in the Basque Country.
Recently, the company announced the shipment of its 20Ah cell prototypes for validation with customers and has received the first external tests, which confirm that its technology exceeds the state of the art in energy density, weight and safety. This breakthrough consolidates its competitive advantage and underlines its potential to transform the battery industry.
A new stage in Basquevolt’s leadership
In this new cycle, Pablo Fernández Santos takes over the leadership of Basquevolt from Francisco Carranza. Fernández Santos, with a solid background in the automotive industry and experience at Renault, has been a key player in Basquevolt since its foundation, where he began his career as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His leadership will guarantee the continuity of the company’s technological and industrial strategy, ensuring its alignment with the objectives of growth and consolidation in the market.
Francisco Carranza leaves a fundamental legacy at Basquevolt after leading its launch and consolidation as a European benchmark in solid-state batteries. With an outstanding career at Nissan-Renault and in the creation of gigafactories at ACC (Automotive Cells Company), his knowledge of the market and industrial strategy have been decisive in the development of the company. Under his leadership, Basquevolt has achieved key milestones that guarantee its competitive position in the energy transition, and for this the company thanks him for his work and dedication in the services provided.
Commitment to European technology and the Basque industrial ecosystem
Basquevolt aspires to become a benchmark in European solid state cell technology, with a firm commitment to a technology ‘Made in the Basque Country’ for the world. Its vision is to democratise the electric vehicle and strengthen the competitiveness of local companies in strategic sectors such as stationary storage, contributing to the energy transition and European technological independence.
Since its foundation, Basquevolt has been a model of public-private collaboration, driven by the backing of its founding shareholders: the Basque Government, CDTI Innvierte, Iberdrola, CIE Automotive, Enagás, EIT InnoEnergy and CIC energiGUNE. This support has been key to consolidate Basquevolt as a strategic player in the next generation battery industry in Europe.
