The biotechnology company based at the Zamudio/Derio Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park has received the award at the Royal Palace of El Pardo in Madrid, in a ceremony presided over by Queen Letizia

The National Innovation and Design Awards are granted by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities to recognise and highlight companies that have made innovation and design essential pillars of their strategy.

During the ceremony, awards for both 2024 and 2025 were presented. BIOLAN, represented by its Founder and CEO, Asier Albizu, received the 2024 National Innovation Award in the category of Innovative SME, from the hands of Queen Letizia, at the Royal Palace of El Pardo.

These prestigious awards recognise excellence in research, development, and technology transfer processes, as well as the role of design as a driver of competitiveness and transformation. Today’s event celebrated both editions, 2024 and 2025, reinforcing the institutional commitment to promoting talent, design, transformation, and innovation.

BIOLAN continues to drive innovation, digitalisation, and sustainability as strategic pillars, both in its products and across its entire organisation. The company has developed an ambitious project that merges innovation and technology to transform the fields of food quality and safety, as well as human health diagnostics, offering integrated analytical solutions based on cloud-connected biosensors that combine diverse technologies such as biotechnology, electrochemistry, AI, and machine learning.

BIOLAN responds to real market demands and needs, always with the aim of providing fast and simple solutions adapted to each sector, to ensure the well-being of consumers and patients.

For BIOLAN, innovation is a key factor in its growth and differentiation. The company develops technological solutions that enhance products and processes, creating added value for its clients. This approach, together with its strong international presence — with 11 offices across Asia, America, Africa, and Europe — has consolidated BIOLAN as a benchmark in its field. The 2024 National Innovation Award acknowledges the daily effort and commitment of its entire team to foster the company’s competitiveness and transformation.

Within the framework of the awards ceremony, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, hosted the awardees yesterday at Madrid’s Royal Botanical Garden, offering BIOLAN the opportunity to share experiences with other leading innovation figures in a space for dialogue and reflection.

This award marks a milestone that symbolises the result of years of dedication by BIOLAN and encourages the company to continue developing solutions that generate a positive impact on industry, society, and the sustainability of our planet.
