Emakumeak Zientzian concludes its tenth edition with a manifesto for the science of the future
The manifesto, the result of a collective process of reflection, sets out actions to inspire the science of the future
Coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Emakumeak Zientzian brought its extensive program of activities to a close with a festive event centered on the presentation of a manifesto that was the result of a collective process of reflection. This action plan, which will set the strategic guidelines for the future of the initiative, became the central theme of the celebration and a starting point for continuing to promote the role of women in science and technology.
The event was attended by Ane Oiarbide (Fomento San Sebastián), Jon Gurrutxaga (Gipuzkoa Provincial Council), Ander Larrinaga (Álava Provincial Council), and Eider Mendoza, Deputy General of Gipuzkoa, along with representatives from all the participating entities, including the Basque Country Technology Park, collaborating entities, and the volunteers who made the various activities possible. The presenter of the event, Maitena Salinas, was in charge of conducting the ceremony in a festive atmosphere, accompanied by the music of Janus Lester, who sang the song “Ertzak” that he composed in 2023 as the anthem of Emakumeak Zientzian, highlighting the collaboration, collective effort, and enthusiasm that have marked this tenth edition.
Emakumeak Zientzian has released its manifesto and action plan, a document that outlines the alliance’s commitment to addressing structural inequalities from an intersectional perspective. The text establishes nine lines of action aimed at strengthening the visibility of women scientists, democratizing access to knowledge, and promoting more equitable and co-responsible work environments, with the goal of advancing toward a more just scientific-technological ecosystem. This manifesto represents an ethical commitment shared by the entities that make up Emakumeak Zientzian and invites organizations and institutions to join these actions to build, together, the science of the future: https://emakumeakzientzian.eus/manifestua/

Under the slogan “Marea bizia gara” / “We are a living tide,” thirty-four Basque entities have emphasized the strength of the collective, thus culminating the tenth edition of Emakumeak Zientzian with a look toward the future. The organizers have given a very positive assessment of this tenth edition, marked by the high number of activities, the high level of participation, and the wide media coverage achieved. The final balance leaves an excellent impression and reinforces the collective commitment to continue growing and joining forces in future editions.
For this reason, the organizers would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the participating entities for their involvement and commitment to this tenth edition, which has once again highlighted the strength of the scientific-technological ecosystem and the importance of collaborative work. Thanks to your support, Emakumeak Zientzian continues to grow and bring science closer to society. We look forward to seeing you again next year to continue moving forward together on this shared path.
