The recognition is part of the GASEZ initiative (Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones), created to give visibility to entities that work to promote the SDGs and leave a positive impact on society.

At the invitation of IASP, Parke presented this morning in Barcelona its lines of action in SDGs, which have placed it as an international reference along with areas such as Linköping in Sweden or Research Triangle Park in the USA.

Euskadi Technology Park has been selected as one of the 50 “SDG Model Zones” worldwide, within the framework of the GASEZ initiative (Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones), created to give visibility to organisations and entities around the world that are working to promote the SDGs, and which includes recognised areas of innovation such as Linköping in Sweden, Lakeside in Austria or Research Triangle Park in the USA.

The list of 50 finalists was presented at the World Investment Forum by the president of IASP (International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation), Lena Miranda, whose organisation invited Parke to present its lines of action on SDGs at the “SDG Model Zone Initiative” panel, which took place this morning in Barcelona as part of the “GASEZ Conference”.

At the meeting, the process of identifying the “50 SDG Model Zones” was presented, and it was recalled that the main objective is to initiate, mobilise and recognise the efforts of the “Special Economic Zones” so that they can act as models for other regions or organisations. In this sense, Euskadi Technology Park participated in the event as a “Model Park”.

As highlighted by the organisers of the GASEZ Conference, “these 50 innovation ecosystems will serve as a showcase on how to work towards the SDGs, with a view to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, in which, according to recent reports, 16% of the target has recently been reached”.
