Circular economy applied to composite materials

It is estimated that in Europe, parts made of composite materials with glass fibre or carbon fibre reinforcement account for 4,500,000 t and 110,000 t per year in volume respectively. Currently, 98% of manufacturing rejects and end-of-life composite parts are landfilled.
To reverse this situation and improve the management of composite waste, it is necessary to develop new materials and research into recycling technologies, both mechanical and chemical, that favour the incorporation of recovered products in different sectors, thus activating the circular economy.
