Solar photovoltaic canopy for self-consumption at the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park

Álava, News

The Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park has launched a new solar photovoltaic installation for collective self-consumption in buildings E8 and E10, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and moving towards a more sustainable model.

The project, which received €18,612 in European funding through the Next Generation EU funds, was carried out between November 2024 and February 2025. It consists of the installation of a solar photovoltaic canopy for self-consumption with surplus energy eligible for compensation, as established in Royal Decree 244/2019.

The canopy, located in the car park of building E8, is equipped with 160 solar panels with a total peak power of 88 kW. Thanks to this infrastructure, 104,777 kWh will be generated per year, of which 85% will be used for self-consumption, representing an energy saving of 89,060 kWh/year and a reduction of 44.53 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

With this initiative, the Basque Country Technology Park is contributing to the construction of a greener, more digital and more resilient Europe.

This project is funded by the European Union – NextGeneration EU and managed by the Spanish Government and the Basque Government.
