The SUSTAIN-IT project has won the award in the Educational Innovation category at the 19th edition of the awards

The award consolidates the centre’s position in educational innovation and international cooperation in vocational training

Politeknika Txorierri has been named an international winner at the Quality Innovation Awards (QIA) 2025, in the category of Innovation in the Education Sector, for the European SUSTAIN-IT project, an initiative focused on promoting more digital and sustainable vocational training in Africa

This recognition marks a new milestone for the centre, having previously won at the national stage of the awards in Spain, thereby consolidating its standing in the field of educational innovation at an international level.

In this edition, a total of 565 innovations from six countries took part in the international competition, of which only 24 projects were awarded prizes, following a rigorous evaluation process based on criteria such as novelty, usefulness, learning, user-friendliness and effectiveness.

The SUSTAIN-IT project, coordinated by Politeknika Txorierri and co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, aims to strengthen the skills of vocational training teachers in Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Namibia through the use of digital tools, environmental sensors and challenge-based learning methodologies linked to sustainability.

The QIA Awards, promoted by international quality organisations and coordinated globally by bodies such as the China Association for Quality, seek to recognise innovations with a real impact and encourage the exchange of best practice between countries. In Spain, the initiative is promoted by the Association of Centres for the Promotion of Excellence (CEX), in collaboration with organisations such as Euskalit.

“This international recognition marks another step forward in our commitment to vocational training that addresses global challenges. SUSTAIN-IT reflects our commitment to sharing knowledge, learning from other contexts and generating real impact through education,” says Anabel, Director of Strategy and Innovation at Politeknika Txorierri.

The international awards ceremony took place in Donostia–San Sebastián on 23 and 24 April 2026, as part of the International Conferences on Innovation and Management organised by CEX.

With this recognition, Politeknika Txorierri reinforces its role as a leading player in international educational innovation and in the development of cooperation projects in the field of vocational education and training.
