Runloc and the Behobia-San Sebastian: Local technology for a world-renowned event
Created by the company Akting, based at the Donostia Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, #Runloc is its technological solution for tracking runners, designed and developed for the Fortuna Sports Club and applied in the iconic Behobia-San Sebastián
This year, the tenth edition has been held in which Runloc has accompanied the runners but above all its followers, allowing them to locate in real time the effort and passion of the participants. This ‘km0’ development shows how local technology can boost one of the most important sporting events on the national popular running scene.
This year’s data confirms Runloc‘s impact on the fan experience. At 6:00am, 151 people were already active on the app looking for their favourite runner, the figure quickly shot up to 836 active users at 7:00am reaching a peak of 17,933 users between 12:00pm and 1:00pm.
Among the most followed runners were Chakib Lachgar, winner in the men’s category, and Sara Baceiredo in the women’s category. The users of the application, mostly from Spain with a total of 26,349 connections, also included followers from France, Great Britain, Germany and other countries. In terms of national connections, the Community of Madrid led with 11,073 users, followed by Catalonia with 7,960 and the Basque Country with 7,823, with Donostia, Irun and Bilbao being the Basque cities with the most activity on the app.
Runloc has established itself as an essential tool for the Behobia-San Sebastián followers, and at Akting we are committed to continue developing technology that connects people in key events and reinforces the visibility of Donostia in the technological field.
