CIC bioGUNE and Athletic Club start a strategic collaboration to integrate Life Sciences research in the field of sports, contributing to the improvement of health and wellbeing in the Basque Country.

CIC bioGUNE, a member of BRTA, is pleased to announce the start of a strategic collaboration with Athletic Club. The aim of this alliance is to integrate Life Sciences research in the field of sport, contributing to the improvement of health and wellbeing in the Basque Country. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to the transfer of scientific knowledge to society, promoting its application to optimise sporting performance and encouraging society to adopt healthy lifestyles.

At CIC bioGUNE we consider the integration of science in sport to be fundamental in order to generate a positive impact on quality of life. In collaboration with Athletic Club, we will work to transfer scientific advances to sports practice and to the community in general, ensuring that science is a key tool for the development of sports performance and disease prevention.

Scientific innovation and social impact

The first project of this collaboration is coordinated by Iñigo San Millán, Athletic Club’s Performance Director, and is focused on the study of biomarkers of sporting performance. Through the analysis of these indicators, we seek to provide precise scientific data that will allow us to optimise the physical preparation of the players and to base training strategies based on scientific evidence.

The second project, with a strong social focus, is aimed at the prevention of diabetes and the promotion of healthy habits from an early age. At CIC bioGUNE we are aware of the importance of physical exercise for the prevention of chronic diseases, which is why, together with Athletic Club, we want to raise awareness in society of the need to promote an active lifestyle backed by scientific knowledge.

With this collaboration, the Basque Country is positioning itself as a model for the integration of scientific knowledge in the field of sport. Beyond the impact on high performance in sport, we are looking for the benefits of this initiative to reach society as a whole, promoting physical activity as an essential pillar of wellbeing.

At CIC bioGUNE we reaffirm our commitment to the transfer of fundamental knowledge to applied research and the dissemination of knowledge, ensuring that scientific advances are accessible to all sectors of society. This agreement with Athletic Club reinforces our commitment to innovation and science as drivers of transformation, contributing to a healthier society that is prepared to face the challenges of the future.
