TECNALIA and Umiles Next present their remote and automated driving vehicles for the mobility of the future
The tests took place at the Mobility Solutions Show, the new business meeting on urban and interurban mobility solutions held in Toulouse.
Intellydrive technology was tested during the demonstrations. This technology, through a combination of intelligence and local automated driving, remote vehicle management, and automated vehicle tracking through convoy mode technology called platooning, offers cost and safety advantages over other automated driving options.
TECNALIA and Umiles Next take another step forward in their collaboration for the mobility of the future, following the development of the Concept Integrity air taxi.
The applied research and technological development centre TECNALIA and Umiles Next have presented their Intellydrive technology applied to several vehicles. In this presentation, the capabilities of Intellydrive in aspects such as teleoperation and automated convoy driving were shown at the Mobility Solutions Show, the new meeting for companies on urban and interurban mobility solutions held in Toulouse. The aim is to develop the technologies for the mobility of the future that will enable a safe, efficient, intelligent and sustainable sector.
In the case of Ground Mobility, it is based on the teledrive thesis (Intellydrive): it combines remote driving technologies with automated driving solutions that allow drivers, from a control centre, to remotely operate vehicles without distance limitation.
Intellydrive is complemented by technologies that enable automated driving in convoy formation, also known as Platooning. The technology allows two or more vehicles to drive together in a coordinated convoy formation without requiring assistance. The lead vehicle is controlled locally or remotely, while those behind it follow automatically and without human intervention.
Through these technologies, TECNALIA and Umiles Next are working on efficient and electric vehicles operated remotely with the latest communications technology and natural interaction, designed for different operations and activity scenarios: transport of people and cargo in ports, transport in airports, commercial and industrial areas, taxis on demand, tourism and tourist tours; industrial logistics; last mile delivery; or delivery in defined areas, among other solutions.
Thanks to the integrated intelligence and advanced environmental perception systems built into the vehicle, they have semi-autonomous driving capabilities, with the possibility of evolving towards fully autonomous operation when regulations and legislation allow.
