On 3 December, the Faes Farma headquarters, located on the Zamudio/Derio Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, will host the 2025 Technological Innovation and Transfer in Neuroscience Conference, which will bring together the main players in the Basque ecosystem to promote collaboration and accelerate the transfer of knowledge and technology to the healthcare system and the market.

On 3 December, the Faes Farma headquarters, located on the Zamudio/Derio Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, will host the 2025 Technological Innovation and Transfer in Neuroscience Conference, organised by the Achucarro Basque Centre for Neuroscience, BIOEF, the Basque Health Cluster and Faes Farma.

The aim of the meeting is to highlight the scientific and technological potential of the Basque Country in neuroscience and to promote collaboration between the scientific, technological, healthcare and business ecosystems in order to accelerate the transfer of knowledge to the market and society.

The institutional opening will be given by Amaia Esquisabel, Director of Scientific Policy for the Basque Government. Lorea Mendoza, scientific coordinator of BIOEF, will then present the ‘Positioning Report on R&D&I in Neuroscience and Mental Health in the Basque Country 2024’, prepared within the framework of the PCTl2030 initiative by Euskampus, EHU, the Health Research Institutes (11S) and BIOEF, with the aim of understanding how the Basque Country’s R&D&I system in the field of neuroscience and mental health is responding to new trends and lines of work in this field of knowledge.

The programme will also include a poster session and a series of focus groups centred on five key areas.

The conference will conclude with a sharing of results and perspectives for collaboration and a presentation by Ines Gallego, Director of Health Transformation, Analysis, Planning and Citizen Participation.

Attendance will be free of charge with prior registration.

The Basque Country, an emerging hub for neuroscience

The Basque scientific community is positioning the Basque Country as a European benchmark in neuroscientific research and development. According to the report on Science in the Basque Country 2024, more than 22,800 people work in R&D, making the region a leader in research employment in Spain.

In addition, centres of research excellence such as Achucarro, BCBL, the Basque Country health system research network – Bioaraba, Biobizkaia, Biogipuzkoa and Biosistemak health research institutes coordinated by BIOEF, the various technology centres and cooperative research centres grouped under BRTA, universities, together with companies in the biomedical and technological fields grouped under the Basque Health Cluster and other agents, such as Euskampus, which promote research and innovation in the field of neuroscience, form an expanding ecosystem with a direct impact on brain health, precision diagnosis and advanced therapies.

The 2025 Technological Innovation and Transfer in Neuroscience conference is part of this strategy to strengthen the connection between basic science, industry and clinical practice, generating opportunities for public-private collaboration and technology transfer from the Basque Country to the rest of the world.
