The Basque Government recognises the Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster for its commitment to Road Safety in the Workplace
The Innovabide Network comprises some 70 organisations and companies, of different sectors and sizes, committed to Road Safety.
The Director of Traffic of the Basque Government, Estibaliz Olabarri, recently presented the Innovabide 2024 Award to the Mobility and Logistics Cluster of the Basque Country for its involvement with the Innovabide Network and for its work in promoting Road Safety at Work. The company Bridgestone also received a Special Mention for its commitment and good practices in this area. Promoted by the Traffic Department, the Network comprises some 70 organisations and companies of all sectors and sizes, committed to Occupational Road Safety.
On behalf of the Cluster, its president, Eduardo Lasa, accepted the award, stating that Road Safety is a shared responsibility between the different agents involved. Thus, from the Cluster, he highlighted ‘innovation and cooperation as ways to promote smarter mobility, that is, safer, more efficient and sustainable’.
In the Basque Country, one out of every three traffic accidents with fatalities or serious injuries occurs in the workplace. In 2023, 988 accidents of this type were recorded, with 7 people killed and another 40 seriously injured. To address this reality, in 2017 the Basque Government created the Innovabide Network, which brings together some 70 Basque companies committed to Road Safety through Advanced Management.
The Director of Traffic, Estibaliz Olabarri, stressed that ‘the future of occupational road safety involves innovation, collaboration and the integration of human and technological perspectives’. Olabarri highlighted the relevance of the Innovabide Network, because ‘it forms part of a broader strategy, the Basque Government’s Road Safety and Safe and Sustainable Mobility Plan 2025. A Plan that aims to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured by 50% by 2030 compared to 2020. A global objective, included in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and ratified in the Basque Pact for Road Safety. A Pact signed by all Basque institutions, victims‘ associations and other organisations, also committed to the great challenge of reducing the accident rate with a Vision of Zero Victims by 2050’.
