Bizkaia, News

The Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia has joined the Athletic Club Foundation as a Benefactor Partner. In this way, the Park becomes part of our entity and joins, making our commitment in favour of a better society its own, to the projects that the Foundation develops in the social, cultural, educational, sporting and environmental fields. The signing of the agreement held in San Mamés was attended by Juan Carlos Ercoreca, president of Fundazioa, Aitor Elizegi, member of the management committee and former president of Athletic Club, Joseba Urbieta Pero-Sanz, Manager of the Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia, and Itziar Epalza Urkiaga, General Director of the Network of Technology Parks of Euskadi, and the red and white legend Jose Angel Iribar

Since its inauguration in 1985, the Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia has been a benchmark for its ability to attract talent, which has made it one of the most important centres of innovation in relatively new sectors, but already fundamental for economic development, such as Industry 4.0.

It is home to 282 companies, which last year had a combined turnover of 3,582 million euros, and whose activity employs 10,988 people, accounts for 7% of Bizkaia’s GDP and contributes 6.8% of the tax revenue of the Regional Treasury. Among these, there are leading companies in sectors considered strategic in the Basque Government’s Science, Technology and Innovation Plan 2020, such as aeronautics, automotive, electronics, energy, environment, engineering, medicine and biosciences or information technologies.

The Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia is part of the Basque Technology Park Network, an ecosystem of talent and knowledge that concentrates the commitment to give innovation and internationalisation leading roles in Basque industrial policy.
