The European Commission, through its Joint Research Centre (JRC), has published the 2025 edition of The EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard, the annual report that identifies the companies that invest most in research and development (R&D) in Europe and worldwide.

This edition lists the comanis Parke, Faes Farma and Sener, along with four other Basque companies, among the companies with the highest investment in innovation, according to data extracted from the annual accounts for 2024.

The JRC report has established itself as a benchmark tool for analysing private investment in R&D, offering a comparative overview of large companies’ commitment to technological innovation and scientific development. Through this analysis, the European Commission assesses companies’ ability to boost industrial competitiveness and strengthen Europe’s position in the global context.

The 2025 edition of the Scoreboard compiles information based exclusively on audited financial data, ensuring the robustness and reliability of the results. This approach allows for the objective measurement of companies’ investment efforts and the monitoring of trends in research and development over time.

In addition to identifying the leading companies in R&D investment, the report provides a key knowledge base for public policy formulation by facilitating analysis of the role of business innovation as a driver of economic growth, job creation and technological development.

With the publication of this new report, the European Commission once again underlines the strategic importance of R&D investment in strengthening the European industrial fabric and addressing the challenges of competitiveness, sustainability and technological transformation facing European economies in an increasingly globalised environment.
