On the first anniversary of the METAPOSTA system’s start-up, the Basque Government Department of Industry, Innovation, Trade and Tourism and the MONDRAGON Corporation have signed an agreement whereby MONDRAGON will embark on an Implementation Plan for METAPOSTA at companies, education centres and other entities forming part of the Mondragón Corporation, the Basque Country’s major business association.
The agreement was signed by the Regional Minister for Industry, Innovation, Trade and Tourism, Bernabé Unda, and the President of the MONDRAGON Corporation’s General Council, José María Aldecoa, and it anticipates developing a series of measures to promote use of the METAPOSTA system by the Corporation’s cooperatives and worker members.
Metaposta is an online safe and mailbox system for totally secure, confidential receipt of documents sent by financial institutions, electric and telephone companies, government bodies, etc. It also enables citizens to upload important computerised documents for secure storage, and permits electronic signature.
Some of the measures included in the Metaposta/Mondragón Corporation agreement are:
- Institutional communications to the cooperatives’ management bodies and their worker members.
- Use of the service by the cooperatives, their worker members and relevant entities within the Corporation (corporate centre, business divisions, research centres, cooperatives with particular historical or financial significance).
- Information campaigns to show the practical use of METAPOSTA at the cooperatives.
- Work for integrating different management applications for sending documents via METAPOSTA.
By means of this Plan, the MONDRAGON Corporation aims to extend the advantages offered by the free online safe and mailbox system to the cooperatives and their members, together with the savings they imply.
The company METAPOSTA was founded in 2010 and consists of eight partners. The MONDRAGON Corporation is a shareholder, through Mondragón Inversiones, together with Ezten (the venture capital fund of SPRI and the Basque Government through its Department of Industry, Innovation, Trade and Tourism), EJIE (the Basque Government’s computer society, belonging to the Department of Justice and Public Administration), the Chambers of Commerce of Bilbao, Gipuzkoa and Álava, the Tecnalia Corporation and the direct marketing firm Gupost.
In addition to collaborating on the launch of the METAPOSTA system and being a shareholder, three of the Mondragón Corporation’s most important cooperatives – Caja Laboral, Eroski and Seguros Lagun Aro – are also member entities and send their documents via METAPOSTA.
The agreement forms part of the series of measures to be taken by the Basque Government with a view to METAPOSTA reaching a total of 100,000 users by the end of this year, with 25 top-level issuers and 75 companies or institutions using this service, which allows savings of up to 80% on the cost of sending documents.
