The University of Deusto will build its first university satellite in collaboration with SATLANTIS

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Deusto and the space technology company SATLANTIS have formalized a collaboration agreement to launch the SATLANTIS-DEUSTO Technological Classroom, a unique space for joint training and development that connects the academic environment with the real challenges of the space sector.

The classroom aims to offer students an exceptional applied learning experience through their direct participation in the design, development, and validation of a nanosatellite. During the 2025–2026 academic year, a multidisciplinary team of students will take on key technical roles such as mechanical design, electronics, and telecommunications systems.

SATLANTIS, headquartered at the Leioa Campus of the Basque Technology Park, is an internationally recognized company in the New Space field, specializing in advanced Earth observation solutions from space. The company has developed high and very high-resolution optical cameras for small satellites, used in scientific, environmental, and infrastructural missions, among others. With a 100% success rate in its Earth observation missions and numerous future missions planned, SATLANTIS is consolidated as a leader in the sector, bringing its technological expertise and applied innovation model to the classroom, and exposing students to real challenges of the space industry.

According to Andoni Eguiluz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Deusto, “this classroom represents a new way of linking university education with technological and industrial reality. Our students not only learn content but also apply what they have learned in a real context, collaborating with a leading company in the aerospace sector.”

Meanwhile, Aitor Conde Rodríguez, CTO of SATLANTIS, highlighted that “through this collaboration we seek not only to train future professionals in the space field but also to inspire a new generation committed to exploration and innovation. The space sector is experiencing unprecedented growth, and Euskadi must be an active part of this new technological wave.”

The SATLANTIS-DEUSTO Classroom will also help foster skills such as teamwork, technical decision-making in complex environments, and results-oriented thinking — all essential for training professionals ready to face today’s technological and social challenges. From SATLANTIS’s People (Human Resources) area, this initiative is promoted as the beginning of a joint path to develop young talent, strengthen collaboration between university and industry, and consolidate an ecosystem that promotes innovation and sustainable growth in the space sector.
