ZIV signs the largest contract in its history to digitise the Greek Electricity Network

Being a European manufacturer with its own R&D has been a key differentiating factor for ZIV
The contract will have a positive impact on employment in the Basque Country
ZIV has secured a major project in Greece to supply smart meters to HEDNO, one of the 10 largest electricity distribution companies in Europe and the only one in Greece. The contract, awarded to the consortium formed by ZIV and ITRON, includes nearly one million devices and the associated data collection and management systems. It will have an initial duration of three years, extendable for up to five more years.
The tender specifications required a significant European industrial content. Smart meters are currently a fundamental part of the digitisation of the electricity system and the improvement of the services that companies offer their customers. As they are critical assets, they require special attention in terms of cybersecurity, both to protect the electricity grid and user data.
ZIV’s position as a European manufacturer with its own R&D and extensive experience in smart grids has been decisive in this project. As Borja Negro, CEO of ZIV, points out, ‘this award recognises the high degree of innovation incorporated into our products, the result of the efforts of a global and multidisciplinary team. It allows us to remain at the forefront of technology and contribute to the energy transition necessary to ensure a sustainable and secure electricity supply’.
This long-term contract is the largest ever awarded to ZIV. It will have a positive impact on employment in the Basque Country, both at ZIV and in the network of local suppliers that support it. ZIV is also a major supplier of other smart equipment for electricity networks, mainly protection, control and communication systems for primary and secondary substations. Thanks to its positioning in this market segment, which has been growing steadily in recent years, ZIV has secured contracts in more than 50 countries in the last 12 months and has become the leading technology supplier for renewables at the national level.
