AR Racking completes PCS cold storage warehouse in Picassent with narrow aisle racking
The company has successfully completed a 100% operational AR PAL installation designed to operate at −25°C
The solution enables the storage of 10,368 Euro pallets using narrow aisles and wire-guided turret trucks
AR Racking has successfully completed the new cold storage warehouse for Productos Congelados Selectos SL (PCS) in Picassent, Valencia. The facility is now fully completed and operational, strengthening PCS’s cold storage capacity with an industrial storage solution designed to guarantee efficiency, accessibility and safety in a −25°C environment.
For this project, the company installed a conventional AR PAL narrow aisle storage system, featuring a height of 12 metres and six load levels, including the ground level. The solution provides capacity for 10,368 Euro pallets, measuring 800 × 1,200 mm and weighing up to 700 kg each, maximising the use of available space through reduced aisle widths while enabling efficient management of frozen stock.
“After assessing different storage options, we prioritised direct access over high-density storage. As we handle a large number of medium and low-turnover product references, we needed a system capable of guaranteeing 100% immediate accessibility to every pallet position. The combination of conventional static racking and narrow aisles perfectly met this requirement,” explained Jorge Álvarez, Engineering Director and PCS project manager.
The cold storage warehouse has been optimised to operate in narrow aisles using wire-guided turret trucks, improving manoeuvring precision, keeping forklifts within a predefined travel path and reducing operating times within the cold chamber. With this configuration, PCS now has an infrastructure designed to maximise storage capacity, maintain cold chain integrity and respond more flexibly to its logistical requirements.
“The challenge was not only one of capacity, but also of operational control. The greatest value of this infrastructure is that it enables us to completely decouple our operations by physically separating the bulk storage buffer area from the order preparation zone. This allows us to simultaneously handle full pallet services at the loading bays and intensive picking operations on the mezzanine level, without one activity interfering with or disrupting the other,” said Alberto Chust, Logistics Director at PCS.
Collaboration with PCS began in October 2023 and has enabled the development of a bespoke storage solution, designed to maximise every available cubic metre while supporting the company’s growth. From the initial analysis phase through to commissioning, our team has worked to deliver a robust, secure and scalable system.
With this project, AR Racking continues to advance industrial cold storage solutions that combine capacity, efficiency and long-term reliability. The commissioning of the PCS warehouse in Picassent reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation and to the development of systems tailored to the real needs of each customer.
