AR Racking expands Gelagri’s cold storage capacity in Navarre
The new freezing chamber provides capacity for approximately 12,000 euro-pallets across an area of more than 5,000 m²
The facility combines Mobile Pallet Racking and Drive-in Compact Racking to optimise space at -24 °C
AR Racking has completed a new storage project for Gelagri Ibérica at its facility in Milagro, Navarre. The project provides the European leader in frozen vegetables and ready meals with a new cold storage chamber designed to increase its storage capacity and make the most of the available space and volume.
The facility, covering more than 5,000 m² and almost 12 metres in height, has capacity for approximately 12,000 euro-pallets. AR Racking has developed a combined solution of Mobile Pallet Racking and Drive-in Compact Racking, adapted to a constant freezing environment at -24 °C and to the preservation, traceability and stock rotation requirements of the food industry.
The choice of mobile racking responds to the need for high-density storage without compromising direct access to pallets. By reducing the space allocated to permanent aisles, Gelagri can concentrate greater storage capacity within an optimised refrigerated volume, with a positive impact on energy efficiency and the costs associated with continuous refrigeration.
The solution also incorporates the night-time configuration developed by AR Racking, which distributes the aisles evenly during periods of lower activity. This feature promotes uniform circulation of cold air, helps maintain a stable temperature throughout the chamber and contributes to the efficient performance of the refrigeration system.
The project was completed in nine weeks, thanks to continuous coordination between the AR Racking team and the other companies involved in the construction work. Careful planning of the installation, the commissioning of the mobile racking system and compliance with the agreed deadlines made it possible to deliver the new storage positions without any deviation from the schedule.
