BCARE Appoints Ramón Ugarte as New Chief Executive Officer to Lead Its Next Phase of Growth

The executive brings extensive experience in energy storage, business development and international expansion

He joins BCARE at a time of technological consolidation and company growth

BCARE, the first spin-off of CIC energiGUNE and a leading provider of value-added services for the energy storage industry, has appointed Ramón Ugarte as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the aim of accelerating the company’s growth, strengthening its market position and expanding the reach of its solutions and services for the energy storage sector.

Ugarte brings extensive experience in the energy and industrial sectors, particularly in the field of energy storage. Before joining BCARE, he spent more than eight years at CEGASA Energía, where he served as Commercial Director from 2020, leading the business development of lithium-ion energy storage solutions for renewable, commercial and industrial applications. Prior to that, he held senior positions in business development and product management at CEGASA, DUTT, part of the Pasaban Group, and IKOR, building a strong international track record and a deep understanding of technology and industrial markets.

His appointment comes at a significant stage in BCARE’s evolution and maturity. The company has expanded its offering from consultancy, testing and diagnostics to covering the entire battery lifecycle, including technology selection and assessment, characterisation and degradation analysis, systems engineering and integration, BMS development and advanced modelling, pilot-scale manufacturing and battery pack production, as well as monitoring and diagnostic solutions.

This positioning has also been recognised by industry. In 2024, Iberdrola España awarded BCARE its Supplier of the Year Award in the Energy Transition category, recognising its innovative approach and commitment to the projects in which it collaborates. In particular, the company’s availability, responsiveness and ability to deliver products on time and to the required quality standards were highlighted.

BCARE’s technological progress is especially evident in its latest developments. Within ASTRA-CC, a HAZITEK 2023-2025 project led by i-DE, part of the Iberdrola Group, together with BASQUEVOLT and BCARE, solid-state battery cells were developed and integrated into a functional module for stationary applications. This collaboration further strengthens the position of the Basque solid-state battery ecosystem at European level.

The company also boasts an increasingly diversified technological and industrial track record. It has developed monitoring and diagnostic systems for smart grid batteries, quality control procedures for BESS systems, and solutions for telecommunications and light electromobility applications. In addition, it is involved in European projects focused on nickel-zinc technologies (LOLABAT) and sodium batteries (MUSIC). This combination of industrialisation, digitalisation and new chemistries enhances its capability to address critical infrastructure, advanced stationary storage and other emerging markets.

With this appointment, BCARE aims to drive a new phase focused on commercial growth, the diversification of products and services, and the industrialisation and international expansion of its solutions, while maintaining technological innovation as one of the company’s core pillars.
