CEGASA Energía promotes the use of solar energy in Castellón
The company, based at the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, is participating in the BESS hybridisation of the Useres-Figuerasa photovoltaic plant through a new project funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) resources.
CEGASA Energía, a European leader in energy storage solutions, is rolling out a new ERDF-funded project through the development of a BESS energy storage solution for the hybridisation of the Useres-Figuerasa photovoltaic plant, located in Les Useres (Castellón).
The initiative, promoted by Ingeniería Proyectos y Soluciones S.L. (INPROSOL S.L.), addresses the concentration of solar generation during the central hours of the day and will make it possible to store the surplus energy generated during this period for later delivery to the grid. In this way, the solution will help optimise the use of renewable resources, improve the plant’s operational flexibility and facilitate a more efficient integration of photovoltaic generation into the electricity system.
The solution developed by CEGASA Energía for this project incorporates predominantly European technology. The company is supplying the DC block with three 5 MWh E/Strem CNT systems, providing a nominal energy capacity of 15.04 MWh and a usable energy capacity of 14.56 MWh, connected at 20 kV. The power electronics equipment consists of Ingecon Storage 350TL units, which together deliver an output of 3 MW. The infrastructure is completed with an InMPPC photovoltaic plant controller developed by Ingelectus.
With the exception of the cell, this European integration has enabled the project to achieve the maximum score of 5 under the ERDF European-origin criterion. This result recognises the system’s European value chain and reinforces the guarantees of traceability, quality and regulatory compliance associated with technology developed in Europe.
Scheduled to enter operation between March and April 2027, this initiative further strengthens CEGASA Energía’s commitment to collaborating with specialised companies in its surrounding environment, combining local expertise and capabilities in the development of energy storage solutions. This partnership contributes to creating value within the Valencian Community’s business fabric and helps stimulate the regional supply chain.
The award of this new ERDF-funded project reaffirms CEGASA Energía’s technical capability to lead the energy transition through Made in Europe technology, demonstrating how a strong European industry specialising in energy storage is essential to accelerating the deployment of renewable energy sources. This commitment to European innovation enables the company to contribute to strengthening the industrial ecosystem, enhancing the competitiveness of the European value chain and consolidating a more sustainable and efficient energy model.
