Innobasque’s 7th Call for Innovation Case Studies Mobilises 52 Innovative Initiatives from 45 Organisations Across the Basque Country
The call reflects the diversity and collaborative nature of the Basque innovation ecosystem, with proposals from businesses, technology centres, public bodies and social organisations
Projects spanning multiple fields, from healthcare and artificial intelligence to the circular economy and quantum technologies, demonstrate how innovation is creating new opportunities for the Basque Country
An expert committee will select the case studies to be showcased at the 15th Global Innovation Day and included in the Innobasque Innovation Case Studies Repository, both serving as reference points to inspire new initiatives across the Basque Country
The Basque Innovation Agency, Innobasque, has concluded the seventh edition of its Call for Innovation Case Studies in the Basque Country, with 52 proposals submitted by 45 organisations from the Basque innovation ecosystem.
The aim of this edition is to identify and raise the profile of real-life innovation experiences developed in the Basque Country that contribute to transforming knowledge into economic, social and environmental value. To achieve this, the call has been structured around four categories: the transfer of science into innovation, the application of artificial intelligence to innovation processes, diversification into new science and technology-based sectors, and the role of public administration as a driver of innovation. These categories reflect the priority areas defined in Innobasque’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan and are, in turn, aligned with the Euskadi 2030 Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (PCTI) and the Euskadi 2030 Industry Plan.
Diversity within the Innovation Ecosystem
Once again, the response to the call highlights the diversity and collaborative nature of the Basque innovation ecosystem. The proposals have been submitted by companies, technology centres, research organisations, healthcare institutions, public administrations, foundations, cooperatives and social organisations. In this edition, Innobasque member organisations have once again demonstrated their commitment to innovation, promoting 30 of the 52 case studies submitted.
Particular note should also be made of the participation of organisations that submitted more than one case study. These include Ayesa Ibermática and BioGipuzkoa, with three proposals each, as well as AZTI, Bilbao City Council’s IT Centre, Ermua Town Council and Mobility LAB, each contributing two initiatives.
The projects cover a wide range of fields, including healthcare, advanced industry, food and nutrition, energy, mobility, retail, public administration, artificial intelligence, the circular economy, quantum technologies and logistics, demonstrating the breadth of sectors in which innovation is helping to create new opportunities for the Basque Country.
Selection of Proposals for Global Innovation Day
Over the coming months, an expert committee will assess the proposals submitted in accordance with the criteria established in the call. These include the strategic relevance of the initiative, its degree of innovation, collaboration between stakeholders, the impact achieved, sustainability, and its potential for replication.
The selected case studies will form part of the programme for the 15th Global Innovation Day, to be held in November 2026, and will be incorporated into the Innobasque Innovation Case Studies Repository, a collection of experiences designed to inspire other organisations and encourage knowledge exchange within the Basque innovation ecosystem.
In addition, a selection of these initiatives will be featured in the monthly webinars organised by the Basque Innovation Agency, Innobasque, with the aim of showcasing and sharing innovative experiences developed across the Basque Country.
