Museum Cemento Rezola and Heidelberg Materials have today inaugurated the exhibition “3D PRINTING. Design, manufacture, build”, sponsored by the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, which brings visitors closer to different objects produced using this additive technique. 3D printing opens up a world of possibilities in which sustainability, speed, flexibility and economy are the protagonists.

The exhibition, which will remain open to the public until 28 April 2024, presents an interesting and attractive variety of applications for industries in the automotive, aeronautics, medicine, architecture and design sectors. In addition, the public will learn what 3D printing is, how it is printed, characteristics and advantages of this technique.

The exhibition features 50 pieces printed with PLA filaments, steel or titanium and prototypes of buildings printed in earth or concrete, including the largest 3D printed building in Europe. These objects will show how this technology is transforming our daily lives. The opening ceremony was presided over by José María Echarri, Honorary President and spokesperson for Heidelberg Materials, and Rafael Pascual, Director of the Añorga factory of Heidelberg Materials and of Museum Cemento Rezola.

With the support of texts, videos and a printer, the exhibition “3D PRINTING. Design, manufacture, build” invites us to discover in a very didactic way the versatility and potential of 3D printing that is embodied in personalised 3D organs, 3D prostheses and biomodels of 3D neurosurgery, 3D aeronautical parts, 3D housing, 3D furniture, 3D design and 3D jewellery, recreations of archaeological and art pieces in 3D, etc. The exhibition unveils a technology that has changed the way we produce.

Collaborating in the exhibition are the San Sebastian School of Architecture (UPV/EHU), OPTIMUS 3D, 3D STOA, MRLASPIUR, Arquimaña, Javi Sánchez, Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), Goierri Eskola and Heidelberg Materials.

The exhibition “3D PRINTING. Designing, making, building” is part of the Mugak/Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura de Euskadi programme. The exhibition can be visited until 28 April 2024 at the Museum Cemento Rezola (Añorga Hiribidea, 36. Donostia/San Sebastián).

About Museum Cemento Rezola

The Museum is located in a very special place and in a unique building, the old school that the Cementos Rezola factory built in 1948 for the children of its employees. In 1997, after the school fell into disuse, the factory commissioned Estudio Peña Ganchegui to remodel it to adapt it to its new function as a museum. A new use, but the same mission: to disseminate knowledge and culture among the people of the surrounding area.

In fact, the building is a symbol of the social commitment that the factory has maintained with its environment for 170 years. The Heidelberg Materials factory in Añorga is the only living exponent of the industry in the town, to which it has always been firmly committed and directly linked to its history, as the cement that has given life to the most representative works of the last century in the Basque Country has come from its installations.

The Museum has a specific educational programme for primary school students, as well as activities for secondary and professional education. With the aim of responding to the needs of each educational centre, guided tours of its spaces and adapted workshops are offered.
