Our commitment with society

Women in science and technology

Actions aimed at increasing the visibility of professional women working in the areas of Science and Technology within the Parks.

Support for, and promotion of, the role of women in Science and Technology

The Strategic Plan defined by the Parks in Euskadi sets out a strategic line for the support of, and promotion of, the role of women in Science and Technology. This includes the following actions, among others:

Equality Working Group with Annual Target Plan

The Gender Equality Plan of the Parks is our roadmap to meet the four key objectives that we are pursuing with an impact on our area of activity (customers, providers, society):

  • To strengthen the commitment to equal opportunities in the Parks culture
  • To ensure that the Parks employment policy prevents discriminatory practices and guarantees the same career development opportunities for women and men
  • To make the Parks a safe place, free of violence and harassment
  • To ensure that the gender perspective is incorporated into all external visibility and society outreach activities

Furthermore, the Parks has implemented a Work/Life Balance Plan for staff, to remove any obstacles to employment resulting from maternity or paternity and the limitations that a working life imposes on family life, encouraging a proper balance between both areas and promoting equal opportunities between men and women.

Signing of the Inspira manifesto

The Parks Network plays an active role in the Inspira STEAM Project, launched by the University of Deusto.

The main purpose of the project is to build a fairer and more balanced society, deprogramming gender roles and exposing the existing stereotypes so that they do not determine what people choose to study. For this purpose, MENTORS play a pivotal part in the project, promoting scientific/technological career paths among primary school students in the Basque Country.

The Parks Network has also created CORPORATE VOLUNTEERING to allow all professionals associated with the STEAM areas in the parks in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa to voluntarily participate in the project.

Making Science and Technology accessible to society

Science and Technology are constructed by and for society in the sense that a society that is able to understand, use and make decisions about Science and Technology is a society with a brighter future. The Parks in Euskadi, as a public entity, has a duty of transparency and of transferring and sharing its activities for the promotion of Science and Technology. The RPTE reinforces its commitment to its social environment with initiatives such as:Musik-fest project, cross-country race, Aurkitu Parkean 2019, Nordic Walking, different categories of sports tournaments…

FOSTERING SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL VOCATIONS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

The Parks is responsible for different actions which aim to inspire an interest in Science and Technology, working in collaboration with the companies based at the Parks, public institutions and other organisations. We make a special effort to encourage women to get involved in these areas, emphasising the importance of their role and working together for a true equality of choice and equality of promotion:
  • Forum for Experience in Professional Training in collaboration with companies at the Parks, Hetel and Ikaslan
  • ‘Scientific Lives’ in collaboration with companies from the Parks and from the APTE
  • Visits to centres of learning
  • Collaboration with agents involved in education and the sharing of Science and Technology
