The IIS Biogipuzkoa is organising a key course as part of the University of the Basque Country’s Summer School to explore the future of the healthcare system, from strategy to technological disruption

On 7 and 8 July 2026, IIS Biogipuzkoa will hold a new edition of its Summer Course, as part of the University of the Basque Country (EHU) Summer Courses, under the title PLEAMAR: The transformative wave of innovation in healthcare. The event will take place at the iconic Miramar Palace in San Sebastián and will bring together key professionals from the healthcare and scientific sectors.

Organised by the Innovation Support Unit, the course will bring together institutional leaders, clinical and research staff, as well as entrepreneurs and managers from the healthcare ecosystem at both national and regional levels. Over two days, the main challenges and opportunities for transforming the healthcare system through innovation will be analysed.

The first day, to be held on Tuesday 7 July under the theme “Visible tides: strategy, healthcare innovation and territorial cooperation”, will focus on a strategic vision of the healthcare system. Issues such as value-based healthcare models, the design of future systems and the key role of collaboration between regions will be addressed.

Meanwhile, the second day, entitled “Deep Tides: Innovation Transforming Healthcare”, will take place on Wednesday 8 July. This session will focus on the most disruptive trends, exploring the potential of health data as a driver of change, the digital transformation of health information systems, and the new opportunities offered by quantum computing in biomedical research and healthcare management.
