TECNALIA and Irizar promote sustainable mobility solutions to lighten fleet structures and components
IRIZAR and the TECNALIA technological research and development centre will work together in areas such as multi-technology propulsion systems, weight reduction, smart mobility and the implementation of digital technologies
IRIZAR, a leading brand of multi-technology buses and coaches, and TECNALIA, a technological research and development centre, are strengthening their alliance with a new agreement to promote sustainable mobility solutions in the automotive sector. Both organisations have been collaborating for years in areas such as research and development of innovative technologies for sustainable mobility, and are now deepening their collaboration in areas such as the lightweighting of structures and components, control systems for electric and hybrid propulsion, connectivity and smart mobility, as well as digitalisation. This has been signed by David Sánchez, Director of Industry and Mobility at TECNALIA, and Imanol Rego, CEO of the Irizar Group.
In the field of lightweight structures and components, IRIZAR and TECNALIA are seeking innovative solutions that will result in greater energy efficiency and cost reductions for future vehicle lines. Both organisations have been working on the development of alternatives using composite materials, which will be introduced in the future range of buses, while continuing to make progress in identifying new opportunities for weight reduction.
In the research and development of control systems for electric and hybrid propulsion, IRIZAR and TECNALIA are working on the design and development of advanced control and energy management algorithms for different electric and hybrid propulsion systems, both for buses and for IRIZAR’s ieTruck, its 100% electric truck. These control systems optimise energy consumption and improve vehicle efficiency, resulting in reduced emissions and increased range.
In addition, the collaboration addresses the energy optimisation of on-board systems that require thermal management, through the development of models and algorithms that contribute to the advancement of more efficient and sustainable solutions.
The collaboration between IRIZAR and TECNALIA is an example of how industry and research can work together to drive innovation and sustainable development in the automotive sector. Both organisations are committed to continuing to work together to design and develop innovative solutions that respond to market and customer needs.
