Joining LGBTI+ Points Sarea, the first and only LGBTI+ Safe Points Network promoted by the Ortzadar LGBTI+ association and with the collaboration of the Basque Government, is another step forward in the commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Basque Country Technology Park has received the distinction that accredits its incorporation as a safe space and active agent in the promotion of the rights of this group, thus demonstrating its commitment to equality and the prevention of aggression.

The five campuses have received this recognition for their membership of the network and, in particular, for their active involvement as safe and influential spaces. The Basque Country Technology Park stands out for two key factors:

  • 24h activity 365 days a year, guaranteeing a safe space at all times.
  • Parke staff at these five safe points have received specific training in diversity and LGBTI+phobia awareness, reinforcing their capacity to respond to possible situations of risk or discrimination.

Principle number 4 of the five key points defined by the UN in relation to LGBTI+ rights is the promotion of equality and, in particular, equal opportunities and non-discrimination. In this context, the consideration of Parke as an ‘influential’ space acquires an added value, as it acts as a social and business reference in its strategic environment, the field of science, technology and innovation.

Identifiable safe points

The network, in which more than 20 organisations participate, now totals 450 safe points in the Basque Country, with the aim of guaranteeing safe, accessible, respectful, supportive and discrimination-free environments, making visible the commitment of institutions, businesses and organisations to human rights and respect for diversity, creating a solid network of safe spaces.

In addition to the physical sign at the entrances to the buildings that identifies each safe point, a website has been set up from which these spaces can be located on the map.
