The Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster participates in an institutional mission to Panama

The Basque Government’s External Action Department has promoted the visit with the participation of a dozen representatives from Basque organisations and companies
During the mission, opportunities were identified in the areas of sustainable urban mobility, multimodal logistics integration and rail transport
The Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster participated in an institutional mission to Panama, organised by the Basque Government’s Secretariat General for External Action, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha, who has personal ties to the Basque Country due to his Basque ancestry. The delegation was completed by representatives from Basque Trade & Investment; the Fluidex and Mobility and Logistics Clusters; and several companies, including partners from the Basque logistics cluster Eysa, Idom and Smartlog.
The visit’s agenda included meetings with prominent Panamanian authorities, including the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Julio Moltó, and the Secretary of Railways of Panama; the Mayor of Panama City and the Secretary of the Municipality’s Metro; and representatives of the Panama Canal Authority and Tocumen International Airport. In addition, the delegation had the opportunity to make a technical visit to the Panama Canal and learn about other strategic projects in the country.
Opportunities in Mobility, Logistics and Railways
The aim of the mission was to identify opportunities for collaboration between the two territories and to strengthen the international projection of Basque industrial and technological capabilities. With regard to the logistics sector, represented by the Basque Mobility and Logistics Cluster, opportunities were identified in the medium and long term in areas such as sustainable urban mobility, multimodal logistics integration and rail transport. Specifically, the Panama Pacifico and Green Valley urban development projects (which include improvements to road infrastructure) were presented, as well as the freight and passenger railway project that will cross the country and begin construction in 2026.
The mission represented a step forward in strengthening institutional relations between the Basque Country and Panama. It allowed for closer relations and new contacts, opened up new avenues of collaboration for the development of both territories, and identified business opportunities for Basque companies.
