13th edition of the ITS Euskadi Congress on Intelligent Transport Technologies

The thirteenth edition of the ITS Euskadi Congress on Intelligent Transport Technologies (ITS) has been held. The event brought together more than 130 representatives of the mobility industry, who were welcomed by the President of the Mobility and Logistics Cluster of the Basque Country, Joaquín Acha.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that, within its gravity, the current energy context is providing the advantage of accelerating the environmental and technological transition of Mobility. In this sense, a dozen papers presented different advances ranging from electromobility to autonomous mobility, including the technologies, solutions and services that make them possible, both in terms of transporting people and goods.

Companies from the Basque Technology Parks, belonging to the cluster, have actively participated in the congress.

Vicomtech and the company Gertek presented their work on a platform for the digitalisation of infrastructures based on 5G connectivity.

On the other hand, innovative issues such as the application of quantum technologies were presented. Tecnalia stated that of all the technologies currently being worked on, quantum technology is possibly the one with the most radical potential impact in areas related to health, the environment, energy, transport, security and industry. Although they are new technologies, they offer the promise of significantly outstripping their classical counterparts in terms of impact, but they are still a gamble which, as such, it would be desirable to at least prepare for.

Also in the technological and digital field, presentations were given on applications aimed at goods logistics: Automation of heavy vehicles by Zenialabs; options for the energy transition of fleets by Mobilsafe or self-managed digital identities to improve security by Wimbitek; or digitalisation and adaptation to legislative changes, by the company Igarle, rounded off the Congress.

Finally, in order to speed up the arrival on the market of innovations in the form of products, the Ceit technology centre and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa presented the Gipuzkoa Living Lab, a space for testing cooperative, connected and autonomous technologies geared towards intelligent infrastructures.
