The Abanto Campus, first stop on the “Euskal Emakumeak Teknologian” Exhibition that will tour the Euskadi Technology Park
The initiative began with a brief presentation ceremony attended by representatives of the organising organisations, the Euskadi Technology Park and Itelazpi, as well as the Official College of Telecommunications Engineering.
The exhibition, which demonstrates the commitment of the three entities to the development of STEM vocations, allows us to get to know three generations of Basque women who have been, are and will be references in the field of technology and teaching in the Basque Country.
Over the next few weeks, the Abanto Campus of the Euskadi Technology Park will host the “Euskal Emakumeak Teknologian” exhibition of women of reference, which will be the first stop on the exhibition’s tour of all the active campuses of the Technology Park. The presentation ceremony took place on Monday 29 April, with the participation of the two entities that have made this initiative possible: the Euskadi Technology Park and the Basque Government Telecommunications Company, Itelazpi.
The aim of this exhibition is to give visibility to Basque women from three different generations who are benchmarks in the field of technology. Both the general manager of the Euskadi Technology Park, Itziar Epalza, and the director of Itelazpi, Xabier Zubiaur, emphasised at the presentation the common commitment of both companies to the promotion of women in Science and Technology, and the importance of bringing their work closer to society as a whole. Oiane Niebla, Dean of the Basque Official College of Telecommunications Engineering, was also present at the event, representing a group with a large presence in the exhibition, that of women telecommunications engineers.
The “Euskal Emakumeak Teknologian” exhibition has its origin in the Equality calendar that Itelazpi publishes every year as a sign of its firm commitment against gender violence, the use of non-sexist language, and the visibility and promotion of women in technology. This commitment is fully shared by the Euskadi Technology Park, which has wanted to collaborate in the maximum dissemination of the exhibition by granting them a preferential exhibition space in its facilities.
The three generations of Basque women of reference have been classified into three groups: pioneers, current teachers and researchers. The panels that are now in the Headquarters building of the Technology Park in Abanto – and which will subsequently travel to the rest of the Campuses – show, through illustrations by David Fernandez Rementeria, the work and importance of these women in the scientific-technological field.
