The Basque industry explores real-world applications of quantum technology

The Basque Country Technology Park and the GAIA cluster brought together companies, technology centres, academia and stakeholders from the quantum ecosystem at the Zamudio/Derio Campus

The Basque Country Technology Park and the GAIA cluster hosted an event designed to introduce Basque companies to the practical applications and opportunities offered by quantum technologies, under the theme: “What are the benefits of quantum technologies for your business?”

The event featured contributions from BasQ, Biqain, Red.es, Tecnalia, Ayesa, LKS Next, Quantum Mads and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), which presented a range of use cases relating to cybersecurity, energy, digital twins, industrial robotics, supply chain optimisation, and 5G/6G communications.

The session also addressed the key challenges involved in integrating these technologies into the business landscape and included B2B meetings between companies and specialised stakeholders.

Cristina Murillo, Deputy Managing Director of GAIA, described the event as a highly valuable hands-on initiative “that provides an opportunity to explore, in depth, the real-world applications of this emerging technology in response to market challenges”. She noted that the event fostered close dialogue between researchers, business leaders and experts, “demonstrating how quantum technologies are beginning to transform key sectors of Basque industry, including energy, healthcare, transport, logistics and advanced manufacturing”.

In this regard, the practical case studies presented during the event provided clear insight into the potential of quantum technology to improve processes, optimise resources, enhance competitiveness and deliver innovative solutions, “thereby consolidating its role as a strategic pillar for the technological and economic development of our region”, concludes Cristina Murillo.
