The ‘Science and Technology for Women’ programme brings the Basque Country Technology Park closer to young women in order to promote scientific and technological vocations

Álava, Bizkaia, Commitment, Gipuzkoa

For yet another year, the Basque Country Technology Park has joined the ‘Science and Technology for Women’ programme, an initiative promoted by APTE (Association of Technology Parks of Spain) which aims to make the work of numerous women in the fields of science and technology visible and to encourage scientific and technological vocations among young students. This year, under the slogan ‘The universe is waiting for you to change it’, the 7th edition of the programme will be held, consolidating itself as a reference to inspire future generations of women scientists and technologists.

Promoting the role of women in science and technology is an essential part of the Basque Country Technology Park’s Strategic Plan, encouraging the representation of women in all the actions planned at our six active campuses.

Between 25 and 29 November, an agenda of activities will take place in the three territories (Araba, Bizkaia and Gizpuzkoa) in which more than 600 students from 10 different educational centres are expected to participate, in addition to the collaboration of leading women in the scientific-technological field with whom the students will have the opportunity to chat and share their concerns. The programme and professionals planned for the three territories will be as follows:

  • 25 November, Araba: Laura Vega (Industrial Engineer, CTA)
  • 26 November, Araba: Elena Díaz de Apodaca (Doctor in Chemical Sciences, Tecnalia).
  • 28 November, Gipuzkoa: Silvia Gómez (Manager of MSAT laboratories, Viralgen) and Andreina Morales (Head of the Robotics Department, Cyber Surgery).
  • 29 November, Bizkaia: Estibaliz Capetillo Glez. de Zárate (Principal Researcher, Achucarro) and Reyes Calco (Ikerbasque Research Associate, BCMaterials).

An opportunity to imagine the future
The programme not only seeks to inspire, but also to break down gender barriers in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
), offering young female students a close and real vision of the possibilities that the scientific field offers.

From the Basque Country Technology Park, we encourage participants to take advantage of this opportunity to imagine a future in which women lead change in the world of science and technology.
