Since its establishment in 1995, Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park has provided a base for Gipuzkoan companies as they work to connect innovation and savoir-faire, ensuring that knowledge flows naturally from one company to another in order to collectively create a richer and more economically sustainable society. Together, they have created a focal point which bridges talent and creation, with the most important area of expertise being the bioscience industry. A concentration of leading companies has succeeded in transforming the Park into an international reference.
Today there are a total of 192 companies which employ 6,336 people and register a turnover of 1,405 million Euros. This figure represents a 964 million Euro contribution to the GDP of Gipuzkoa; in other words, 4% of Gipuzkoa’s GDP is generated at Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park. The companies based at the Park contribute 147.6 million Euros to the Regional Treasury, a figure which represents 3.8% of tax revenue in Gipuzkoa.
Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park is part of the Red de Parques Tecnológicos de Euskadi (‘Basque Network of Technology Parks’ or ‘RPTE’), an ecosystem for knowledge and talent which acts as a driving force for placing innovation and internationalisation at the centre stage of Basque industrial policy. The Network has already consolidated its position as an essential agent for the transfer of R+D to the business environment, hosting a total of 618 companies (0.9% of all companies in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country) distributed across three Parks (Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa). Working alone, the Parks have established themselves as decisive centres for innovation, while acting as a network they are able to share talent, vision and knowledge in order to generate wealth and boost the quality of life in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. Working alongside the companies are the three Basque universities, the centres for basic and excellence research (Basque Excellence Research Centres), business incubators, technology centres, business clusters and professional associations. The Network of Parks in its entirety provides entrepreneurial people with a wide range of high added-value services which enable them to accelerate their projects in the most favourable of conditions.
