The installation will help reduce peaks in demand, improve the use of renewable energy within the tourist complex, and move towards a more sustainable energy model in the tourism sector

The company is integrating its E/Xpand BOX solution into a project that combines 400 kW of photovoltaic power with smart storage to optimise self-consumption

CEGASA Energía, a leading European company in energy storage solutions with over 90 years of experience, has launched an advanced energy storage system at a tourist facility to optimise self-consumption and improve the energy management of the tourist complex.

The project, developed in partnership with Norsol, a company specialising in the design, implementation and maintenance of photovoltaic energy installations, forms part of a progressive process of electrification and energy optimisation at the campsite, aimed at reducing its environmental impact and improving the efficiency of its operations, which will enable the energy generated and consumed at the complex to be managed more efficiently.

Among the benefits, a key one is the reduction in consumption peaks from the electricity grid, thereby avoiding penalties for exceeding contracted power capacity and reducing the strain on critical points in the grid. Furthermore, the system facilitates better integration of solar energy, managing the variability of photovoltaic production and optimising its utilisation.

Furthermore, the solution will reduce dependence on the electricity grid, lower energy costs associated with supply and maximise the use of renewable energy generated on-site. Thanks to the EMS system, the facility can coordinate solar generation, storage and energy consumption in real time, increasing the overall efficiency of the facility.

Moving towards a sustainable tourism model with renewable energy and storage

In an initial phase, carried out in 2023, a 200 kW photovoltaic plant was installed for self-consumption without surplus, equipped with Ingeteam inverters, to cover part of the complex’s energy demand. In 2024, the system was expanded with a further 200 kW of solar generation, increasing the campsite’s renewable production capacity.

The third phase of the project, which is already underway, incorporates an energy storage system that enables the coordination of generation, storage and consumption in real time thanks to the E/Xpand BOX Cabinet solution, with 100 kW of power and 243 kWh of capacity, equipped with Ingeteam PCS and an EMS energy management system.

“Our technology combines flexibility, rapid installation and high safety standards, making it a highly efficient option for self-consumption and smart energy management projects such as the one developed in Olite,” says Iñigo Atutxa, CEO of CEGASA Energía.

This project reinforces CEGASA Energía’s position as a provider of comprehensive storage solutions for commercial and industrial applications. Furthermore, it marks a milestone for the company, as it is the first installation to fully integrate storage, power electronics and energy control.
