Researcher Óscar Millet, awarded for his scientific excellence by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry

The CIC bioGUNE researcher has been awarded the RSEQ Research Excellence Award 2025 for his outstanding career.
He has promoted relevant initiatives and advances in the study of rare diseases.
With more than 140 publications and multiple awards, his scientific work has a notable international impact.
. Dr. Óscar Millet, principal investigator of the Precision Medicine and Metabolism group at CIC bioGUNE and member of the CIBERehd network, has been distinguished with the Research Excellence Award 2025 granted by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ). This award, ratified at the last meeting of the Ordinary General Meeting of the RSEQ, recognises his outstanding career and scientific contribution in the field of biomedicine.
Since joining CIC bioGUNE, a member of BRTA, in 2006, Dr. Millet has played a key role in the growth of the centre, driving strategic initiatives such as the creation and design of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Platform, today an international reference infrastructure for biomolecular studies.
With a solid scientific background that includes stays at prestigious institutions such as the universities of Columbia, Lausanne and Toronto, Dr. Millet has focused his research activity on the analysis of proteins and metabolites, addressing rare diseases with a translational approach. His achievements include the identification of ciclopirox as a potential treatment for congenital erythropoietic porphyria, currently in phase II clinical trials in the US, and recognised as an orphan drug by the EMA and the FDA.
His group also works on the development of neonatal and population screening tools using metabolomics techniques, contributing to the early detection of biomarkers associated with rare diseases and metabolic syndrome in projects funded by initiatives such as H2020 and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Author of more than 140 scientific publications and director of 18 doctoral theses, Dr. Millet maintains an intense activity in the field of institutional and scientific collaboration. He is currently a member of the evaluation panel of the State Research Agency (AEI) in the area of Biomedicine.
Throughout his career, he has been recognised with several awards, including the RSEQ Young Researchers Award (2004), the NMR Specialist Group Award (GERMN, 2020) and the Elhuyar-Goldschmidt Award of the German Chemical Society (GDCh, 2022).
