The Basque Country Technology Park, recognised for its innovation at the Vodafone Deia Innovation Sariak 2024 awards

The Basque Country Technology Park has been honoured at the Vodafone Deia Innovation Sariak 2024 awards, which recognise the work of companies and public bodies that make a significant effort in innovation.

Itziar Epalza, general manager of the Basque Country Technology Park, accepted the award and stressed that ‘innovation is part of our DNA, both internally and in relation to our customers. We have extraordinary talent, as more than 23,000 people work at our different campuses and 7,000 of them (i.e. 30%) dedicate their day-to-day work to generating R&D’.

The ceremony, presided over by the Security Advisor, Bingen Zupiria, took place at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Jaione Ganzarain.

This recognition highlights the constant effort of the Basque Country Technology Park to be at the forefront of innovation, both in terms of management and in the improvement of infrastructures and services. An effort that consolidates it as a benchmark in business management thanks to its ‘multi-campus’ model and allows it to adapt more flexibly to the needs of companies, thus attracting strategic projects.

Sustainability and digitalisation

Sustainability and digitalisation are two key axes in the strategy of the Basque Country Technology Park. Through initiatives such as ‘Parke Verde’ and ‘Parke Smart’, specific actions are being carried out to reduce energy consumption, promote energy self-sufficiency, sustainable mobility and the implementation of 5G networks. In this regard, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus has become the first Technology Park in Spain to implement private 5G networks, thanks to the collaboration of Vodafone, which not only improves the connectivity of companies, but also opens up new opportunities for innovation and the development of high-impact technological solutions.

This recognition by the Vodafone Deia Innovation Sariak 2024 consolidates the position of the Basque Country Park as a leader in innovation and also reinforces its commitment to sustainable and digital development, fundamental aspects for facing the challenges of the future. Thanks to its advanced infrastructure and strategic vision, the Basque Country Technology Park is a key driver in the economic and technological transformation of the Basque Country, creating a significant impact both locally and internationally.
