The Basque Hydrogen Corridor adds a new partner with Fagor Ederlan, and Mikel Amundarain, director of the EVE, is the new vice-president

Bizkaia, News

The BH2C Quarterly Board of Directors, held today at its headquarters in the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) building in Abanto-Zierbena, has announced the incorporation of a new member, Fagor Ederlan, bringing the total number of members of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor to 72 and 54 projects. In addition, the new director of the EVE, Mikel Amundarain, has become vice-president of the association.

On the other hand, BH2C has received significant support for its work and the promotion of its projects by being chosen by ‘Clean Hydrogen Mission’ (CHM) as one of the eight examples of hydrogen valleys in the world, among almost a hundred, along with examples from the USA, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the United Kingdom, and the only example in Spain. The organisation has highlighted the opportunity that BH2C represents to develop an industrial and technological ecosystem in the region. The European Union’s CHM initiative aims to generate global collaboration and a platform for access to all the information on large-scale emblematic hydrogen projects. It aims to facilitate the transition to clean energy by promoting the implementation of hydrogen projects that integrate the value chain and by raising awareness among policy makers.

The Partnership also aims to accelerate the creation of Spanish and European Hydrogen Valleys and Corridors; and to accelerate collaboration and the necessary infrastructures, such as the Atlantic interconnection of the ‘HiWest’ corridor. ‘Public support, with regulatory agility and adequate funding, is key in an emerging sector where Europe can achieve a leading position,’ explained the president, José Ignacio Zudaire, recently.

Projects underway

The mobility part has begun to develop with the construction of the hydrogen plant on the Abanto Campus of the Euskadi Technology Park, the synthetic fuels plant is also under construction and others are progressing, such as the prototype of a hydrogen furnace in Sarralle. It will be at the end of 2025 when the hydrogen plant and the truck loading station will be operational, as the objective is to start up another hydrogen plant at Bilbao airport by 2026.
