Basque companies join forces to develop a high-performance actuator manufactured entirely in the Basque Country

Actuators are essential components in sectors such as industrial automation, robotics and aeronautics, as they convert the rotary motion of a motor into linear motion. The global transition towards electrical solutions as opposed to hydraulic and pneumatic systems is driving demand for electromechanical actuators (EMA), which offer advantages such as lower weight and easier maintenance.

This is the context in which ERAGIN was born, an ambitious R&D project that seeks to design and develop a linear electromechanical actuator with maximum performance, thermal stability and reliability throughout its life cycle, capable of responding to the technological demands of the aeronautics sector. The project is led by ZUAZO, with the participation of EGILE and EIPC, Basque companies with extensive experience in aeronautical components, and has the technological collaboration of CIDETEC Surface Engineering.

ERAGIN’s goal is to design and develop a linear electromechanical actuator (EMA) with maximum performance, thermal stability and reliability, capable of meeting the demanding technological needs of the aeronautical sector. This development will enable progress towards more efficient and sustainable solutions, in line with the global trend of replacing hydraulic and pneumatic systems with electrical solutions.

The project will culminate in the manufacture of a complete prototype of a linear electromechanical actuator, whose components will be produced entirely in the Basque Country using advanced technologies such as additive manufacturing, high-precision machining, casting and innovative surface treatments.

CIDETEC Surface Engineering is participating by developing advanced surface treatment and inspection technologies to improve the functionality and reliability of the components.
