The Technology Parks reaffirm their commitment to equality on International Women’s Day
Coinciding with the 8th March, the Zamudio-Derio, Donostia and Vitoria-Gasteiz campuses will host the exhibition “Women who changed and change the world”
The promotion and visibility of the role of women in science and technology is an essential part of the 2024 Strategic Plan of the Basque Technology Parks, promoting the representation of women in all the actions planned by the Parks and supporting and making visible the representation of women in positions of responsibility in companies.
This 8th March, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Basque Technology Parks are joining the Emakumeak gora! campaign, promoted by Emakunde, whose main objective is to claim that society needs more women in positions of decision making and influence.
The presence of women is of vital importance in Parke companies. Thus, of the 618 companies and organisations located in the Basque Country’s Technology Parks, 107 companies, representing 17% of the total, have equality plans. With regard to the number of companies managed by women, this amounts to 156, which means that 25% of the companies in the parks have a woman as the head of the company.
The transition towards an inclusive company is a reality on our campuses. Our companies seek profitability without forgetting responsibility towards their environment, towards all the people and organisations that are related to their activities and decisions. In this change of paradigm, in search of more inclusive organisations, the presence of women is of vital importance.
The Basque Technology Parks are aligned with the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), approved by the United Nations. Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women is an integral part of each of the 17 SDGs. In business, the role of women in decision-making and influential positions is key. The competitiveness of companies depends on numerous organisational and structural factors, of which the key element that conditions this competitiveness is talent. It is important to underline that half, or more, of this talent is in women.
“Women who have changed and are changing the world”.
Likewise, and in its commitment to making the work of women in the field of science and technology visible, the central buildings of the Zamudio-Derio, Donostia and Vitoria-Gasteiz Campuses will host the exhibition “Women who changed and change the world”, an exhibition to publicise the career of female references who have made essential contributions to humanity and continue to do so today.
