The initiative is part of the activities organised by the university for European Mobility Week.

The University of the Basque Country and Euskadi Technology Park, at its Leioa Campus, have inaugurated a double charging point for electric vehicles with the aim of facilitating and promoting sustainable mobility among the thousands of people who visit this academic and business environment on a daily basis. The launch of this facility is part of the European Mobility Week, which has the slogan ‘Combine and move!’ and includes different activities on the three campuses of the UPV/EHU until Friday 22nd.

The recharging point is installed next to the Headquarters Building of the Technology Park and has a 180 kilowatt (kW) super-fast double charger, which will allow up to 80% of the vehicle battery to be recharged in less than five minutes. People using this point will also have the guarantee of recharging the battery of their electric cars with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs).

The inauguration of the new charging point was attended by Gorka Moreno, vice-rector of the Bizkaia Campus of the UPV/EHU and Joseba Urbieta, manager of the Bizkaia Technology Park.

The launch of this facility is part of the UPV/EHU’s programme of activities to celebrate European Mobility Week. Thus, between 20 and 22 September, a wide-ranging programme of activities will be held on the three campuses with the aim of promoting more sustainable mobility among the university community.
The activities include bicycle and electric scooter routes, bicycle workshops and an exhibition of electric cars, including the Formula Student, developed by a team of students and teaching staff from the Bilbao School of Engineering.

The Technology Park’s commitment to electric mobility

The installation of the double charging point in Leioa is part of the Euskadi Technology Park’s commitment to sustainable mobility. It already has 17 double electric recharging points at its Vitoria-Gasteiz facilities, and another 13 in Zamudio/Derio. The aim is to encourage the use of this type of vehicle in order to contribute to achieving a ‘Green Park’ scenario in which climate neutrality is achieved at all the Euskadi Technology Park sites.
