The Basque Country Technology Park continues to grow and now brings together 692 companies across its campuses, which generated a combined turnover of €9.257 billion in 2025, an increase of 12.3% compared to the previous year
The annual data provided by Parke companies highlights the significant weight of sectors such as Aerospace (€2.787 billion), Biosciences (€505 million), Advanced Digital Solutions (€1.380 billion) and Energy (€1.152 billion), all of which are considered strategic within the Basque Government’s Industry Plan 2030.
Total investment in R&D has increased by 30%, rising from €660 million in 2024 to €854 million in 2025.
Companies belonging to the different HAZI and IRABAZI sectors under the Industry Plan 2030 currently account for 76% of total turnover.
The number of people working daily across the Park’s six campuses stands at 24,935, the majority holding university degrees, alongside a growing presence of vocational training (VET) professionals.
Female employment remains at 40% of the total workforce, while the proportion of women in management positions has improved to 22.5%—ten percentage points above the overall average for companies in the Basque Autonomous Community.
In response to the growth in business activity and demand for space, as well as the need to reserve areas to attract strategic projects, the Basque Country Technology Park is promoting its expansion across the Territory through a range of initiatives.
The Basque Country Technology Park closed the 2025 financial year with a further increase in the number of companies established across its six active campuses, coming very close to 700 hosted companies and setting a new record in its historical activity. Specifically, as of 31 December, a total of 692 scientific and technological companies were operating within its facilities, generating a combined turnover of €9.257 billion and employing 24,395 people, the vast majority in highly skilled positions.
These figures, which form part of the Basque Country Technology Park’s Annual Activity Report, reflect sustained growth across all key indicators. The number of companies hosted (+3%), total turnover (+12.3%) and workforce (+3%) have all recorded significant increases, in some cases particularly notable, such as investment in R&D, which rose by 30% (€854 million in 2025 compared with €660 million in 2024).
The report also highlights the privileged position of the Basque Country Technology Park and its six campuses (Zamudio/Derio, Donostia, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Leioa, Hernani and Abanto) in the development of economic promotion policies, as sectors classified as strategic under the Basque Government’s Industry Plan 2030 (HAZI and IRABAZI sectors) now account for 76% of total turnover.
Specifically, the most prominent sectors have been Aerospace, Biosciences, Advanced Digital Solutions, Advanced Manufacturing, Energy and R&D. In terms of turnover, the most significant HAZI sectors have been Aerospace (€2.787 billion) and Advanced Digital Solutions (€1.380 billion). In employment terms, the R&D sector leads with 4,710 people, followed by Energy (3,980 people).
In this regard, the Basque Government’s Vice-Minister for Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation and Chair of the Basque Country Technology Park, Jaione Ganzarain, stated that “the increase in R&D investment confirms that the Basque Country has a solid foundation to address the major industrial challenges of the coming years. The activity of our technology parks, structured around a multi-campus model, enables the acceleration of transformative projects with a real impact on the country’s competitiveness and on the evolution of Basque industry towards a new technological level”.
Ganzarain also announced that “in response to the growth in business activity and demand for space, as well as the need to reserve areas to attract strategic projects, the Basque Country Technology Park is driving its expansion across the Territory through a range of initiatives”.
Talent and skills
In addition to reaching a new record in employment, with a total of 24,395 professionals, the section devoted to human resources highlights several points of interest. In terms of qualifications, there continues to be a predominance of university degrees and doctorates—which account for 62% of the total—while at the same time there has been an increase in the number of people with vocational training backgrounds, now totalling 6,272.
This progress is particularly significant in light of the impact of the FP/Parke initiative, promoted annually by the Basque Country Technology Park to facilitate contact between companies and upper secondary students, encouraging them to pursue scientific and technological pathways. In 2025, more than 1,000 students had the opportunity to visit Parke companies on-site. In turn, companies have consistently expressed their interest to the Basque Country Technology Park in incorporating technical profiles trained through vocational education and training.
Another relevant figure is the proportion of staff dedicated to R&D, which now involves 7,707 people (compared with 7,369 in 2024), where a slight increase in female employment has also been recorded, reaching 42%. It is also worth noting that the number of companies with more than 50 employees holding an Equality Plan rose by 9.5% in 2025, reaching 186 companies.
Even more significant is the figure relating to the presence of women in management positions. In 2025, this index rose by half a percentage point to reach 22.5%, a notable proportion when compared with the overall average of 12% in the Basque Autonomous Community, according to the AED annual report. At overall workforce level, the gender balance in companies within the Basque Country Technology Park remains stable, with 60% men and 40% women.
Finally, it is worth highlighting that 4,751 employees were under the age of 30 as of 31 December 2025, reflecting the commitment of Parke companies to talent development, opportunity creation and workforce renewal.
