Researcher Arkaitz Carracedo, recognised with the Ramiro Carregal Award for Emerging Talent in Oncology Research

Arkaitz Carracedo, Ikerbasque Research Professor and leader of the Cell Signalling and Cancer Metabolism Research group at CIC bioGUNE -a member of BRTA- has been awarded the prestigious Ramiro Carregal Prize for Emerging Talent in Cancer Research. This recognition, awarded by the Board of the Ramiro Carregal International Award for Oncological, Scientific and Technical Research, celebrates Dr. Carracedo’s outstanding contributions to the field of oncological research.

The award ceremony took place in Santiago de Compostela, coinciding with the celebration of the Ramiro Carregal International Cancer Research Award. This event, which brought together leading figures from the political, social, academic and scientific spheres, marked a milestone in the recognition of scientific and technical excellence in the fight against cancer.

The Ramiro Carregal Award for Emerging Talent in Cancer Research seeks to honour researchers who are emerging as leaders in the field and who are making significant contributions to advancing knowledge in the fight against cancer. The jury of the Ramiro Carregal Award highlights Dr. Carracedo’s ‘significant contribution to the understanding of the molecular biology of cancer’ and his ‘ability to make significant contributions to the field of biomedicine in a sustained manner over time and in diverse research settings’. In addition, his ‘still short career has positioned him as a national reference in cancer’.

Dr Carracedo, who is also an associate professor at the University of the Basque Country, has been praised for his brilliant career, creativity and dynamic way of working. His publications in the most prestigious international journals serve as an objective measure of the excellence of his research.

The presentation of the award at this outstanding event in Santiago de Compostela highlights the importance of oncology research and recognises the emerging talent that is leading the way towards significant advances in the understanding and treatment of cancer.
